On July 12, 2023, the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia held a working meeting organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs regarding human rights mechanisms in the border management process.

Public Defender Levan Ioseliani and Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze delivered welcome speeches at the meeting.

Invited expert Romulus Nicolae Ungureanu introduced to the Public Defender and representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs the best practices of the EU countries regarding border management and cooperation between border authorities and national human rights institutions in this field.

The working meeting was held within the framework of the EU-funded project "SupporttoExternal Security Sector Oversight inGeorgia", which is being implemented by Business and Strategy in Europe (B&S Europe), a Belgian consulting firm.
