Public Defender Meets Miners on Strike in Chiatura

On June 15, 2023, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani met miners in Chiatura who have gone on strike and listened to their problems. The participants in the strike presented their opinions regarding working conditions and asked the Public Defender for help in mediation.

"The first thing I would like to point out is that people have been on hunger strike for the fourth day and there is still no doctor on the ground who would monitor their health.

The events taking place here are important for us, since it concerns one of the basic human rights - the right to work. We are involved in the process and within our capabilities we do our best to help achieve an agreement between the parties. The participants in the strike are not radical and are ready to make certain concessions; However, at the same time, they call on the other party to consider their demands.

The Public Defender’s Office is actively working to help the parties to reach an agreement and the working and safety conditions of the employees to comply with international standards," the Public Defender said after the meeting.
