Proposal relating to Proper Reflection of Conflict-Sensitive and Peace Education in General Education Regulatory Documents
On June 29, 2021, the Public Defender addressed the Minister of Education and Science with a proposal regarding the content criteria for reviewing the basic and secondary education textbooks, as well as the reflection of teachers’ skills necessary for the formation of peace culture and conflict-sensitive education in the order on the approval of teachers professional standard.
The Human Rights Education Department of the Public Defender's Office examined the above criteria and standards and found that they do not properly integrate provisions promoting culture of peace and peaceful transformation of conflicts, thus weakening the effectiveness of the contribution of general education to the achievement of the goals declared by the constitution and state strategic documents – peaceful resolution of the issue of territorial integrity, confidence building and reconciliation.
