Training for Organizations of Persons with Disabilities
On 16-18 July 2019, the Public Defender’s Office and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organized training for persons with disabilities and the NGOs working on the issues of persons with disabilities. The training was led by British expert John Waddam and the theme of the training was: “Monitoring of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The training was opened by Deputy Public Defender Ekaterine Skhiladze. She informed the participants of the training of the activities of the Public Defender's Office – the national mechanism of monitoring of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Ekaterine Skhiladze emphasized the importance of involvement of persons with disabilities and their organizations in the monitoring of the Convention and the measures implemented and planned by the Public Defender in this direction.
The training was attended by more than 50 representatives of organizations working on the issues of persons with disabilities. They were introduced to the mechanisms, methodology and guidelines of monitoring of the Convention, formats of cooperation with the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, alternative report preparation methods, etc. Representatives of the organizations also discussed challenges related to protection of the rights of persons with disabilities and the ways of solving the challenges.
