Public Defender Meets with Members of PACE Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination
On 1 July 2021, the Public Defender of Georgia met with Christophe Lacroix, a member of the Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and Giorgio Loddo, Secretary of the Committee. Their visit to Georgia was aimed at obtaining information on the rights situation of the LGBT+ community.
At the meeting, the Public Defender reviewed the cases of discrimination against LGBT+ people and the obstacles faced by the community members in exercising their civil, political or socio-economic rights. The conversation also touched upon the challenges related to the March of Dignity scheduled for July 5.
The information received will form the basis of the PACE resolution on the rights situation of the LGBT+ community in the South Caucasus, which will call on States to take appropriate measures to protect the rights of the community.
