Employees of Public Defender’s Office Share Experience with National Preventive Mechanism of Kyrgyzstan
On July 11-13, 2022, representatives of the National Preventive Mechanism of the Kyrgyz Republic paid a study visit to Georgia. The purpose of the visit was to receive information about the years of practice of the National Preventive Mechanism of Georgia.
At the working meetings, representatives of the Public Defender of Georgia discussed the mandate of the Office, as well as the functions and competencies of the departments. The Kyrgyz colleagues were also introduced to the methodology of preparation and implementation of monitoring visits to the places of detention, imprisonment and restriction of liberty, as well as the control of the implementation of recommendations.
In addition, representatives of the National Preventive Mechanism of Kyrgyzstan paid a study visit to the Tbilisi temporary detention facility, received information about the conditions in the facility and observed the specifics of the monitoring carried out by the Special Preventive Group of the Public Defender of Georgia.
It should also be noted that during their visit to Georgia, the Kyrgyz colleagues attended a public hearing organized by the Public Defender’s Office, where the findings and recommendations of the report of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) on its ad hoc monitoring visit to Georgia were discussed.
After the study visit, both sides expressed their desire for close cooperation in the future.
