Training of the Public Defender on Children’s Rights
The Public Defender launched trainings on rights of children in small family-style children’s homes. The first stage trainings will be held in 30 small family-style children’s homes in Eastern Georgia.
Examination of legal rights of children under the state care made it clear that beneficiaries of small, family-style children’s homes know almost nothing about the rights of children. Given the above, the Centre of Child’s Rights of the Public Defender of Georgia started regular, planned trainings in family-style children’s homes and day care centres on basics of informal civic education and children’s rights.
Trainings for school children are based on the manual oh human rights education for children “Compasito” developed by the Council of Europe that provides information on main principles of the Convention of the Rights of the Child in the child-friendly format.
In Addition, the manual contains mental and physical, as well as fun exercises that promote inclusion of children in the progress of the training.
Interest and inclusion of children in trainings is very high.
The Public Defender’s Office of Georgia hopes that the trainings will promote awareness-raising among children on human rights sphere and will help them to realize these rights in life.
