Public Defender Meets with Population of Villages Ditsi and Kordi

On November 19, 2024, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani arrived in Shida Kartli to receive information about the situation of the people living along the occupation line. The Public Defender held meetings with the residents of the villages of Ditsi and Kordi.

The locals mainly talked about security and infrastructural problems. According to them, among other issues, the internal roads of the villages are problematic, the irrigation water channels need to be renewed, there is no pharmacy, and neither are the public centers functioning. As a result, the migration of young people is high, which leads to the depopulation of the territories.

"I continue to visit the villages located near the occupation line and meet with people living there. It is very important for me to get to know the situation of people who constantly face various types of problems, including security issues, and to stand by them.

Two people have recently been arrested illegally. I think it is necessary for the State to show special care to the people living in such a dangerous environment. That's why I come here, meet them and personally receive information about their situation.

Each meeting gives us the opportunity to thoroughly outline the existing problems and the types of human rights violations and to find solutions. "Continuous monitoring helps us to draw conclusions, which we subsequently provide to the relevant responsible state structures and also reflect in our annual or special reports," said the Public Defender.
