Meeting with Members of Council of Europe Delegation
On February 14, 2024, First Deputy Public Defender Tamar Gvaramadze met with Deputy Director of Political Affairs of the Council of Europe Christian Urse and Political Advisor Marian Jansen.
The purpose of the meeting was to share information for the 29th consolidated report of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe regarding the current situation of human rights in the occupied territories of Georgia.
Tamar Gvaramadze spoke about the illegal violation of the right to life in the occupied territories, including the murder of Tamaz Ginturi by the representatives of the occupation regime on November 6, 2023.
The First Deputy Public Defender also spoke about the main challenges facing the people living in the occupied territories, the vicious practice of illegal detentions on the occupation line, difficulties related to de facto documentation, access to socio-economic services, current situation of access to education and health care. She emphasized the issues of domestic violence and reproductive health of women living in the occupied territories.
The meeting was also attended by Meri Kochlamazashvili, Public Defender’s Advisor for Human Rights in the Conflict-Affected Regions.
