Administration of Justice on Sexual Violence Crimes against Women in Georgia

The present study assesses the compliance of the definitions of crimes of sexual violence in the Criminal Code of Georgia with the Istanbul Convention and international human rights standards, as well as the effectiveness of administration of justice on these crimes and the barriers according these standards.

This is a first report in Georgia to assess criminal proceedings relating to crimes of sexual violence in the context of the Istanbul Convention and human rights standards. The document assists the Georgian authorities in implementing the standards of the Istanbul Convention and can be used as a source of information in the monitoring process.

The study was prepared by the Public Defender's Office with the support of the Council of Europe within the framework of the Council of Europe project "Combating and Preventing Violence against Women and Domestic Violence".
