Special Report about the 2016 Parliamentary Elections
Under the Resolution N03/06/02 of the President of Georgia of 2016, parliamentary elections in Georgia were scheduled for October 8, 2016. Within the powers delegated to the Public Defender of Georgia under the law and with the aim of detecting violations of voter rights and taking adequate legal measures in response to these violations, the Public Defender of Georgia monitored the course of pre-election campaigning, the Polling Day and the process of electoral complaints/grievances. Representatives of the Public Defender observed the election process at over 1300 polling stations and subsequently identified a number of procedural violations; however, these violations didn’t have any substantial impact on final outcome of the polling.
The monitoring mission of the Public Defender of Georgia was made possible through financial support of the Open Society – Georgia Foundation.
