Together against Domestic Violence

On 1-9 December, 2015, within the framework of a 16-day campaign of fight against gender-based violence, discussions were held about domestic violence and its elimination in six regions of Georgia. The public meetings were organized by the Swiss Cooperation Office in the South Caucasus and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), in cooperation with the Public Defender's Office of Georgia and the National Anti-Violence Network.

The first public meeting was held in Ambrolauri on December 1, 2015. It was followed by meetings in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Guria, Imereti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Kvemo Kartli.

Local officials, civil society representatives, students and social activists took part in the meetings. The event was led by Ekaterine Skhiladze, Head of the Department of Gender Equality of the Defender's Office.

The event organizers showed Zurab Inashvili’s documentary film "Speak out!”, which was made by the support of the UN Women Georgia and the National Film Center of Georgia in 2014. The film contains real stories about violence against women in Georgia.

Participants of the meeting made UNiTE posters: “Orange the World”.
