Women's Increased Leadership for Resilient and Peaceful Societies
On October 2-3, 2024, a representative of the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia, Sofia Rusetski, participated in a strategic meeting held within the framework of the UN Women programme - "Women's Increased Leadership for Resilient and Peaceful Societies", which was held in the city of Chisinau (Republic of Moldova).
Representatives of state and non-governmental organizations of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, as well as representatives of the embassies of the Kingdom of Denmark and the UN Women offices operating in these countries took part in the meeting.
Participants in the meeting discussed the progress and challenges relating to gender equality in their countries, including the issues of sharing experiences on the continuation of partnership regarding peace and security and fulfillment of commitments on gender equality within the framework of the EU accession.
The representative of the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia, Sofio Rusetski, spoke about the monitoring tool of the Public Defender of Georgia for the implementation of the national action plan for implementing the UN Security Council resolutions on Women, Peace and Security; The attendees were also introduced to the main findings of the research carried out by the Public Defender of Georgia related to the rights situation of displaced and conflict-affected women and girls living in the villages located along the occupation line. She emphasized the importance of women's involvement in the conflict prevention and peace building processes and the coordinated work of the agencies.
The event was held within the framework of the project supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, which is implemented by the UN Women Europe and Central Asia regional offices of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
