Information Bulletin – Periodic Publication, December, 2014

The Public Defender presented information bulletin N11 that depicts activities of the month of December. December happened to be a very intense month for our office. The report of December 10 on human rights and freedoms that reviews the year of 2014 has been prepared; the report of the Public Council of the Public Defender on the special operation conducted in Lopota Gorge on August 28, 2012 was published; special reports of the National Preventive Mechanism on the situation in several establishments of the penitentiary department were also published; 16 recommendations and proposals were addressed to state authorities and local self-governing bodies; also, many other reports, recommendations, presentations and meetings were held that you will have a chance to learn about in our December information bulletin.

The main topic of the issue has been 10th December - the International Human Rights Day. “December 10 is an indication that human rights are above everything else and neither security exists without rights and freedoms of each individual and every day we need to maintain uncompromising stance towards demonstrations of intolerance, violence, xenophobia, persecution and discrimination”, - stated the Public Defender in his greeting.

The bulletin will acquaint you with information on the report made by the Public Defender on December 10 that he presented to representatives of the diplomatic corps, international organizations and the civil sector. Also, on information campaign conducted near metro stations of Rustaveli and Avlabari in Tbilisi during which brochures and flyers on work of the Public Defender were distributed among people. An official reception held in the evening was attended by President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili, members of the Government of Georgia, representatives of the diplomatic corps, international and non-governmental organizations.
