Bulletin, Periodic Publication– February, 2015
The Public Defender published February information bulletin. The main topic of the bulletin is the Public Defender’s visit to the United States. On the course of five days, the Public Defender and his deputies conducted over twenty meetings in Washington and New York.
Another important event of the previous month was hearing of reports of the eleven government bodies on fulfillment of the recommendations of the Public Defender at the Parliamentary Committee of Human Rights and Civil Integration.
In February, the joint sitting of the five parliamentary committees discussed one-year work of the consultation body of the Public Defender – the Ossetian Forum. They discussed issues such as preservation of the Ossetian language and culture, mechanisms of granting citizenship or residence permits to ethnic Ossetian individuals; the bulletin also presents details of the meeting held between the Public Defender and the Council of Ethnic Minorities at the Public Defender with the Minister of Justice of Georgia.
In February, the Public Defender awarded students - winners of the competition “Me - Ombudsman”, while the Public Defender’s Office itself became a recipient of the award as one of the most transparent organizations in 2014.
The bulletin encompasses information on visits of international experts, reports of the Public Defender, statements of the Public Defender, structural changes, recommendations and proposals sent to state authority and local self-governing bodies, all those activities that were conducted by staff members of various units of the office for protection of human rights and freedoms and raising public awareness in this area.
