Recommendation of the Public Defender to the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia on the restoration of Ossetian Material Cultural Heritage
The Public Defender of Georgia submitted a recommendation to the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection to provide financial support for the restoration of the Ossetian House in the Giorgi Chitaia Open Air Museum of Ethnography and opening a permanent exhibition there.
The Ossetian House, which belonged to the brothers Kostaev, is dated to the second half of the 19th century and is an original model brought from the village of Sokhta of Java region in 1975. In early 1990s, no adequate attention was given to the house and it was damaged due to environmental conditions.
Restoration of Ossetian House would be a step forward for the fulfilment of obligations taken by the State before the national minorities. It will contribute to the popularization of Ossetian culture in Georgia, protection of cultural rights of Ossetian community, including their material or non-material cultural heritage, and restoring the confidence between the societies divided by the conflicts.
