Public Defender Addresses Vake Swimming Pool concerning Its Sexist Note
On November 21, 2016, the Public Defender addressed the Vake Swimming Pool with a general proposal concerning its sexist note.
The Public Defender studied the note posted on the territory of the Vake Swimming Pool on his own initiative. The note reads as follows: "Dear Ladies, do not bathe in the pool during your cycles."
According to representatives of the pool, the motive of the ban was the protection of hygiene standards in the pool.
The Public Defender considers that the posted note promotes strengthening of stereotypes, as menstrual cycle is a unique situation, which is characteristic of only women and therefore, he addressed the Vake Swimming Pool with a general proposal to make any ban, in case of a necessity conditioned by the protection of hygiene standards, in a gender-neutral form.
