Training for Interior Ministry Employees on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Communication Standards

From July 20 to August 5, 2022, with the involvement of the Equality Department of the Public Defender’s Office, a cascade training was held at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The participants of the joint training of the Public Defender’s Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs were law and order officers of the Tbilisi Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and employees of the Temporary Placement Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The training was carried out within the framework of the EU project "SupporttoSecurity SectorOversight inGeorgia".

The participants were trained on the rights of persons with disabilities and communication standards. Special attention was paid to the right to equality and the mandate and activities of the Public Defender in relation to the rights of persons with disabilities, both in terms of combating discrimination and monitoring the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The Public Defender considers educational and awareness-raising activities as the most important component in the process of ensuring equality and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities. The Public Defender actively cooperates with various agencies and organizations in this direction.

The project financed by the European Union has been implemented since October 2021. One of its main beneficiaries is the Public Defender’s Office and the task of the project is to improve coordination between oversight bodies and law enforcement agencies. The project is being implemented by the B&S Europe consortium with the participation of PMCG and GCSD.
