Training on the Right to Health

On July 28 and 29, 2022, Dr. Claire Lugar held a training for the employees of the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia on the protection of the right to health in Europe. The event was held with the support of the EU Delegation to Georgia and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Tamar Gvaramadze, First Deputy Public Defender of Georgia, and Nino Jomarjidze, UNDP National Coordinator for Human Rights Policy Development, delivered opening remarks at the event.

During the two-day meetings, Dr. Claire Lugar, a lecturer at the University of Ulster Law School, spoke about human rights-based approaches to health, state mechanisms for implementing the right to health, legal obligations at the national, regional and international levels, including the European Social Charter and the mechanisms of the Court of Human Rights, as well as the challenges of protecting the right to health during the Covid-19 pandemic and the State's response to them.
