The competition “Me Ombudsman 2011” comes to an end

On September 23, 2011, the Public Defender of Georgia, George Tugushi, the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkin, and the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Mr. Philip Dimitrov, awarded the public school students who had won in the competition “Me –Ombudsman.”

The first place in the competition “Me –Ombidsman 2011” was taken by the students of the Tbilisi Public School No. 112: Tinatin Aslamazishvili and Tamar Nozadze. The second place was also taken by students from Tbilisi, in particular, the students of Public School No. 173, Ekaterine Janiashvili and Diana Endeladze. And the third place went to two teams: students of the Surami Public School No. 1, Sophiko Khachidze and Eka Gogoladze, and students of the public school of the village of Gogni in the Terjola municipality, Kakha and Giorgi Bregvadze.

“Me –Ombudsman” is a competition organized by the Public Defender for youth aged between 13 and 18 which serves the purpose of increasing the level of civic education.

The competition was held with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and was funded by the EU project “Support to the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia.”The competition was based on network technologies and was held via the Internet.

On June 1, 2011, the first round and the registration of teams started.In June 2011, 329 teams (or 1,000 players) were registered from different districts of Georgia. Of these, 70% were from the regions.As a result of the first round, 76 of the 329 teams passed the barrier.On June 4, 2011, the second round started, as a result of which 10 finalist teams of 76 were selected.On September 8, the final round was held in which 10 teams took part. Three winning teams were selected.

The works of the final round were assessed by a jury composed of three independent experts.
