Meeting with Resource Officers of Telavi Educational Institution
On 20 September 2019, Eter Shiukashvili and Natia Pitskhelauri, representatives of Public Defender's Kakheti Office, and Ketevan Sokhadze, representative of the Department of Child’s Rights, held an informational meeting with a physiologist and resource officers of Telavi educational institution.
The meeting focused on the Public Defender's mandate and the working practice of the Public Defender's Office, the forms of violence against/among children and the role of resource officers in preventing, identifying and responding to the cases of violence, as well as the legislative framework for regulating the mentioned issues, including referral procedures for child protection and regulations for ensuring security and public order in general education institutions.
The representatives of the Public Defender's Office provided the resource officers with information about the challenges relating to violence in general education institutions, which represents one of the issues indicated in the Public Defender's Parliamentary Report as well, relevant recommendations and the trends identified as a result of monitoring violence in general education institutions in 2016-2017, which still remain unresolved.
A discussion was held at the end of the meeting, durign whihc, resource officers spoke about important issues and challenges in their practice.
