Meeting on Pre-Election Issues with OSCE/ODIHR Representatives

On May 23, 2024, Levan Ioseliani, Public Defender of Georgia, met with Meaghan Fitzgerald, Head of the Election Department at the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Kseniya Dashutina, advisor and local coordinator at the Department, Vladimir Misev, senior adviser on new voting technologies, and Tim Knoblau, representative of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

Preparations for the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 2024 and the need for the assessment of the electoral environment was discussed at the meeting. The Public Defender introduced to the guests the practice of working in the pre-election period and on the election day in accordance with the mandate of the Office; He emphasized the importance of cooperation with the civil sector so that no violation of rights remains unanswered.

The legal framework and electronic technology, with which elections are to be held in Georgia for the first time, were also discussed at the meeting.

The Public Defender thanked OSCE/ODIHR for its support over the years, as well as for the opinions and reports that the organization prepares on the basis of the Public Defender’s request.
