Working Meeting on Violence against Women and Domestic Violence

On 1 May 2019, the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia held a working meeting on violence against women and domestic violence with the support of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia.

The Council of Europe Office in Georgia, the Public Defender, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, common courts and the Council of Europe experts discussed the challenges relating to the effective response to the cases of sexual abuse.
Participants of the meeting talked about the primary reporting of the cases of sexual violence, the challenges at the stages of investigation and criminal prosecution, and the court practice.

Council of Europe expert Tamar Dekanosidze presented the research and monitoring methodology for the administration of justice in cases of sexual violence and other crimes under the Istanbul Convention for the purpose of sharing views with the state agencies. The Public Defender will carry out the mentioned research with the support of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia.
