Public Defender Holds Working Meetings in Washington
Public Defender Levan Ioseliani and First Deputy Public Defender Tamar Gvaramadze, who are paying an official visit to Washington, held working meetings with Stephen B. Nix, Senior Director for Eurasia at the International Republican Institute, and Holly Donaldson, Program Directoratthe National Democratic Institute.
The main topic of conversation was the upcoming elections of the Parliament of Georgia. The Public Defender spoke about the activities of the Office in the direction of elections and expressed his readiness, within the mandate, to provide assistance to the observation missions of IRI and NDI, which have been actively monitoring the pre-election campaign and the election process in Georgia for years.
The Public Defender also spoke about the frequent use of hate speech in the pre-election period and the statement prepared in the format of cooperation with the Central Election Commission of Georgia in this direction.
An introductory meeting was also held with a representative of the Congressional Research Service, specialist in Russian and European affairs, Dr. Cory Welt.
