On January 29, 2025, information was spread through the media about the placement of one of the prisoners with serious injuries at the VivaMedi Clinic. Accordingly, due to high public interest, we would like to inform you that a representative of the Public Defender was at the clinic to check the prisoner's condition and interview the medical staff. In order to obtain necessary information, the Public Defender's representative also met with prisoners and representatives of the administration of the penitentiary institution from which the injured defendant was transferred to the clinic on January 23. Unfortunately, it was not possible to interview the injured prisoner himself, due to his health condition.

We refrain from disclosing the details of information collected by the Office, on the one hand, in order to protect sensitive personal data, and on the other hand, in order to effectively monitor the ongoing investigation.

As far as the Public Defender's Office has been informed, an investigation was launched to establish the causes of the prisoner's injuries. The Public Defender calls on the investigation to investigate the fact within a short time frame and establish the causes of the prisoner's injuries and the worsening of his health.

In addition, as far as the Office is informed, the prisoner's family members indicate that the Penitentiary Service provided them with information about the incident with a significant delay. The Public Defender's Office will study this issue as well.

The Public Defender hopes that the prisoner's health will improve soon. The Office will continue to monitor the protection of his rights.
