Public Defender’s Office to Work out Strategy for Monitoring Implementation of UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

On 3-7 September 2018, the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia hosted Kathleen Deery, international expert on disability and social inclusion. With the assistance of the expert, the Public Defender's Office will develop a strategy of a mechanism for monitoring the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

One of the main priorities of the Public Defender is to protect and promote the rights of persons with disabilities, while the development of a strategy will further facilitate effective performance in this direction.

The international expert held meetings with representatives of the Public Defender's Office, as well as the Advisory Council and the Monitoring Group operating under the Public Defender's Office. The expert also met with representatives of governmental agencies, non-governmental, community and international organizations.
