Public Defender Meets with Population Living Near Dividing Line of Occupied Territories of Georgia

On March 30, 2023, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani met with the population living near the dividing line. He visited the Enguri bridge, as well as the villages of Khurcha and Tskou, and personally received information about the needs of the population, freedom of movement, security and social issues.

Defective infrastructure, lack of transport, social problems and the procedure for receiving compensation for war-damaged houses were named as the main challenges in the villages..

The Public Defender’s Office has been studying the rights situation of the population living in the occupied territories and near the dividing line for years. In the annual reports, a whole chapter is devoted to the description of the situation in the occupied territories and the recommendations developed for the respective addressees in search of solutions.
