Public Defender Meets with Chairman of State Agency for Religious Issues
On July 23, 2024, Levan Ioseliani, Public Defender of Georgia, met with Zaza Vashakmadze, Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues.
The parties discussed the current situation in Georgia from the point of view of freedom of religion, the problems identified over the years and possible solutions to the problems. The Public Defender introduced the mandate and activities of the Office to the Chairman of the Agency in the direction of protection of the right to religion; He spoke about the issues reflected in the parliamentary report, the resolution of which is important for the protection and provision of religious freedom in the country.
The recommendations given by the Public Defender to the relevant agencies were also discussed and the necessity of deepening the coordinated work between the Office and the Agency was emphasized, which will contribute to the establishment of a tolerant environment in the country and allow various religious associations to enjoy the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution.
