Public Defender Meets with Hunger Strikers

On 1 July 2019, Public Defender Nino Lomjaria met with protesters, who have been on a hunger strike for eight days now.

Nino Lomjaria informed the protesters of the monitoring results and the efforts made by the Public Defender's Office since the night of June 20; she also spoke about the proposal of the Prosecutor General's Office in connection with the involvement of the Public Defender with her supervisory power in the process of investigation of abuse of power by law enforcement authorities.

The Public Defender noted that her involvement in the investigation would be as transparent as possible. For this purpose, a public advisory council will be set up in the Public Defender’s Office and members of the organizational group of the protests will be invited to join it together with other individuals.
