Information Meeting with Representatives of GPI Holding relating to Rights of Persons with Disabilities
On February 18, 2021, representatives of the Department of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Department of Equality of the Public Defender's Office of Georgia held an information meeting for representatives of GPI Holding relating to the rights of persons with disabilities.
The online meeting was held within the framework of the promotion of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and was aimed at raising awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities and improving the quality of services provided to them.
In her welcome speech, Deputy Public Defender Ekaterine Skhiladze spoke about the need and importance of strengthening the private sector in the direction of protecting the rights of persons with disabilities and creating an equal environment for them.
A representative of the Public Defender introduced the activities of the Public Defender to the representatives of the company. The cases of discrimination and encouragement of discrimination against persons with disabilities and the Public Defender’s practice were also discussed at the meeting.
The Public Defender's Office will continue to cooperate with the above and other companies and institutions to raise awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities and to strengthen the protection of their rights.
The Office hopes that holding similar meetings and sharing the experience of the Office, as well as creating a possible collaboration platform, will help identify challenges across the country, improve the proper realization of the rights of persons with disabilities and create an equal and dignified environment for them.
