Public Defender Participates in Workshop on Cooperation between NHRIs and EU Institutions

On November 29-30, 2017, Ucha Nanuashvili, Public Defender of Georgia, Niko Tatulashvili, Head of the Department of International Relations, Project Management and Civil Education, and Lara Jamarauli, chief specialist of international human rights law, took part in the workshop on cooperation between National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) and EU institutions, and attended the General Assembly of the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI) in Brussels, Belgium.

120 representatives of civil organizations and other regional bodies discussed the current practice of cooperation and engagement, as well as future opportunities for the protection and promotion of human rights in Europe.

Participants of thediscussions held within the framework of the workshop discussed multilateral, specific ideas for further cooperation in terms of activation of EU institutions at the national level – to ensure support for public statements by the EU, engagement in the dialogue on human rights and development of actions plans for national human rights institutions.

A report on the activities, carried out by the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions last year, was presented at the Annual General Assembly; the Financial Committee, which is chaired by Georgia, presented a financial report; the Network’s action plan, as well as strategic and business plans for 2018-2021 were discussed; working groups' policy documents were updated; the Network members chose a new member of the accreditation commission, which will represent the European region in the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI).

The event was organized by the European Network of theNational Human Rights Institutions.
