Taking into consideration the high public interest, the Public Defender has decided to inform the public that she has started studying defendant Otar Abesadze's case on her own initiative within the authority granted by the legislation. Representatives of the Public Defender visited the defendant at Chapidze Cardiology Center.

The Public Defender emphasizes that the measure of detention applied against the defendant should be proportionate. The decision on the detention should be based on the interests of effective investigation and should consider the individual circumstances of the defendant, including the health condition.

The Public Defender's Office is monitoring the criminal case of defendant Otar Abesadze and will continue to do so in the future too.
