Meeting of the Public Defender with the Chairman of the Defence and Security Committee of the Parliament
On May 4, 2015, Public Defender Ucha Nanuashvili met with Chairman of the Defence and Security Committee of the Parliament of Georgia Irakli Sesiashvili. Issues discussed at the meeting which took place in the Parliament included the strategy and plans of the newly-established Department for Protection of Human rights in Defence Sphere at the Public Defender’s Office. They also emphasized gender issues in the sphere of defence and security, situation of veterans and improvement of appeal regulations. Also, the Public Defender spoke about necessity of conduction of special studies and educational work.
Chairman of the Defence and Security Committee of the Parliament Irakli Sesiashvili gave a positive assessment to a positive role and active involvement of the Public Defender aimed at fundamental protection of rights of representatives of the defence sphere.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Public Defender Natia Katsitadze and Head of the Department for Protection of Human rights in Defence Sphere Tamar Gabiani. The sides agreed on closer cooperation in the future.
