Conference Safe Toy: Practices and Challenges
On October 16, 2017, Public Defender Ucha Nanuashvili held a conference on the theme: Safe Toy: Practices and Challenges. The conference was held within the framework of the informational campaign Safe Toy, which was launched by the Public Defender of Georgia on 1 June 2017.
At the opening of the event, the Public Defender summed up the campaign's progress, briefly reviewed the current situation of toy safety on the Georgian market, the state policy, theEU Toy Safety Directiveand importance of the establishment of market supervision mechanism. Deputy Public Defender Ekaterine Skhiladze, as well as representatives of the Center for Strategic Research and Development of Georgia and the association Safe Toy, presented their views about the problem.
In March 2017, the Public Defender addressed the Government of Georgia with a recommendation concerning the measures necessary to be taken for the protection of toy safety and children’s health.
Within the framework of the information campaign, in June and July, working meetings were held with representatives of non-governmental organizations, various specialists, kindergarten directors, social workers, representatives of Tbilisi kindergarten association, heads of small group homes and representatives of retail networks, the topics of which were the problems in the above-mentioned direction and the goals of the campaign.
In order to raise public awareness, a public event was also organized in October, during which various activities were held and information booklets were spread about the issue of toy safety.
