“From Gender Justice to Sustainable Peace: A 25-Year Vision”

On June 12-13, 2025, a representative of the Public Defender of Georgia, Sopio Rusetski, participated in the International Conference on Women, Peace and Security: “From Gender Justice to Sustainable Peace - A 25-Year Vision” held in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina).

The high-level meeting was attended by government representatives, civil society leaders, international organizations and women peacebuilders.

The goal of the conference was to advance the Women, Peace and Security agenda. Discussions focused on strengthening women’s leadership in peace processes, ensuring justice and accountability for conflict-related sexual violence, and improving the implementation of the women’s security convention through funding and partnerships.

In her speech, the representative of the Public Defender of Georgia, Sopio Rusetski, provided participants with information on the Georgian Public Defender’s monitoring tool of the National Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security. She spoke about the human rights situation of displaced and conflict-affected women and girls in the country, women’s involvement at all levels, with a special emphasis on peacebuilding processes.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the UN, with the support of the UN Secretary-General’s Peacebuilding Fund and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
