Deputies of Public Defender of Georgia Meet with Members of Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Council of Europe
On April 18, 2018, First Deputy Public Defender Tamar Gvaramadze and Deputy Public Defender Ekaterine Skhiladze met with members of the Congress ofLocal and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.
The aim of the meeting was to get information about the mandate of the Public Defender of Georgia and discuss the protection of human rights at the local self-government level in Georgia. The members of the Congress showed interest in the recommendations of the Public Defender and the situation of implementation of the recommendations. The conversation also touched upon the participation of women, as well as religious and ethnic minorities, in the implementation of local self-governance.
It is noteworthy that the monitoring committee of the Congress evaluates the implementation of recommendations by member states, prepares reports on the quality of local and regional democracy and provides new recommendations for the establishment of basic European standards.
