Study on Business and Human Rights Presented to Broad Audience
On December 4, 2017, the Public Defender of Georgia hosted International Conference on Business and Human Rights, supported by the European Union and UNDP joint project Human Rights for Everyone. The event was attended by representatives of the Georgian authorities, international organizations, business sector, civil society and NGOs.
The Human Rights Secretariat of the Governmental Administration of Georgia presented the results of the National Baseline Study on Business and Human Rights, which was prepared through consultations with CiDA, the Public Defender’s Office and experts of the Danish Institute for Human Rights.
The study concerns various issues related to business and human rights, analysis of the legislation and practice. It should be noted that the results of the study served as basis for the three-year action plan on business and human rights, which became part of the Government’s Human Rights Action Plan. The document also concerns labour rights, environmental issues, fight against corruption, protection of personal data, rights of vulnerable groups, fight against discrimination, property law, effectiveness of the damage compensation mechanism, etc.
Speeches were delivered at the presentation by Ucha Nanuashvili, Public Defender of Georgia, Natalia Jaliashvili, Head of the Human Rights Secretariat of the Governmental Administration, Zviad Devdariani, Executive Director of the Civil Development Agency (CiDA) and Rusudan Tushuri, Coordinator of the European Union and UNDP joint project Human Rights for Everyone.
