The Adjara Division of the Regional Department of the Public Defender's Officelaunched monitoring ofpolice departments, divisions and temporary detention facilities on the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara in June 2016.

The aim of the monitoring is to identify rights violations of detained persons. During the monitoring, employees of the Division meet with detainees, get information about their complaints, reveal the cases of alleged abuse of power by police officers and check documentation.

Monitoring is planned in all departments, divisions and temporary detention facilities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.
