Public Defender Meets with Representatives of Eastern Georgian Self-Governments
On June 27, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani spoke about the protection and realization of human rights in local self-governments at the meeting with municipality mayors of Eastern Georgia. The meeting was also attended by Giga Akhvlediani, First Deputy Chairman of the Tbilisi City Council, and Nino Rukhadze, a majority member of the City Council and Executive Director of “Atea”.
First Deputy Public Defender Tamar Gvaramadze introduced the participants of the meeting to the findings and recommendations reflected in the Public Defender's 2024 Report on Human Rights and Freedoms; she emphasized the importance of implementing the recommendations, spoke about the needs of ethnic minorities, children, persons with disabilities and older people, as well as the challenges in social housing.
At the discussion held at the end of the meeting, the parties emphasized the importance of such meetings for the exchange of information and determining the right orientation for the realization of human rights, and agreed on close cooperation in the future.
The event was organized by the Association of Local Self-Governments and was hosted by the Tbilisi City Council.
