Consultative Council of Femicide Monitoring Mechanism Holds Its First Meeting

The ConsultativeCouncil set up within the framework of the femicide monitoring mechanism held its first meeting at the Public Defender's Office on April 24, 2018. The meeting was attended by Deputy Public Defender Ekaterine Skhiladze, representatives of the Department of Gender Equality and visiting members of the Council.

Visiting expert Tamar Dekanosidze presented a femicide monitoring methodology document. Ana Iuluridze, Head of the Department of Gender Equality, presented a femicide monitoring report, which included analysis of the cases that occurred in 2016 and key findings.

At the end of the meeting, the participants discussed the methodology and key findings of the report and the issues to be considered during future monitoring of the cases of femicide.

The Public Defender expressed readiness to establish a femicide monitoring mechanism in 2016, while the Consultative Council was set up for the improvement and proper functioning of the mechanism.
