Meeting with NDI Representative

On October 7, 2024, Levan Ioseliani, Public Defender of Georgia, and Irine Chikhladze, Deputy Public Defender of Georgia, met Alienor Benoist, Gender and Inclusion Analyst of the long-term election observation mission of the National Democratic Institute (NDI).

The parties talked about the pre-election campaign underway in Georgia and the mechanisms for protecting the right to vote. The Public Defender spoke about the mandate and activities of the Office relating to the elections.

Among the topics discussed were the issues of women's involvement in electoral and political processes, the possibilities of preventing and responding to hate speech and sexist expressions, the position of the Public Defender on legislative changes related to gender quotas.

Eleanor Benoit expressed special interest in the activities of the Councils of Ethnic and Religious Minorities and the Consultative Council for Monitoring the Promotion, Protection and Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of the Public Defender’s Office.
