Public Defender Meets with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights

On November 26, 2025, Public Defender of Georgia Levan Ioseliani, who is on a visit in Strasbourg, met with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Michael O. Flaherty.

The Commissioner for Human Rights was briefed in detail on the Public Defender’s position on the current situation in Georgia in terms of human rights protection; they also discussed the recent legislative amendments, including the parliamentary initiative “On Rehabilitation of and Support to Juveniles in Conflict with the Law”, which the Public Defender’s Office is working intensively to bring into line with human rights principles; they discussed the health of Mzia Amaglobeli and the situation of persons detained during protests, the working conditions of civil society organizations, and other topical issues.

Levan Ioseliani emphasized the importance of continuing the close cooperation between the Office of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights and the Public Defender's Office of Georgia.
