Monitoring Results of Infection Prevention and Control Measures in Inpatient Medical Institutions

Public Defender Levan Ioseliani spoke about the monitoring results of infection prevention and control measures in some inpatient medical facilities in Georgia at the working meeting held in the Parliament of Georgia.

Members of the Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee and the Health Care and Social Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, as well as the Minister of IDPs, Labour, Health and Social Protection and the First Deputy Minister of IDPs, Labour, Health and Social Protection were introduced to the special report of the Public Defender.

First Deputy Public Defender Tamar Gvaramadze spoke about the methodology of preparation of the report and noted that Public Defender’s representatives, together with an invited expert and a doctor-epidemiologist, in the second half of 2023, inspected 9 inpatient medical facilities operating in different municipalities of Georgia, evaluated a number of legislative and subordinate acts, analyzed international documents, and studied the relevant information requested from the authorized agencies.

The monitoring revealed violations related to the process and functioning of the infrastructure necessary for the prevention and control of infections in several medical institutions.

At the discussion held after the presentation, the participants talked about the current situation in the medical institutions and the measures that should be implemented to eliminate deficiencies.

The report will be published in the near future and will be made available to the interested parties.
