On November 4, 2024, the Public Defender of Georgia filed an opinion of the friend of the court with Tbilisi City Court regarding the decision to refuse international protection of Azerbaijani journalist Afgan Sadigov.

The opinion of the friend of the court explains what international standards should guide the responsible agencies when considering the application for international protection.

According to the Public Defender's assessment, the information provided in the opinion of the friend of the court will help the court make a justified decision on the issue of compliance of the decision to refuse international protection for Afghan Sadigov with the Georgian Law on International Protection, international standards and human rights.
