Public Defender Visits Kutaisi Social Housing

On April 1, 2023, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani visited the Kutaisi social housing, viewed the building and talked to the beneficiaries.

80 families (including 150 children) are living in unbearable conditions, the building is old and in poor condition, the roof is damaged and water is leaking, the drainage system is also faulty.

The population has been asking for resettlement for years, but they only receive promises, while their situation is getting worse every year. At the same time, the majority of residents expressed dissatisfaction with the cancelation of social assistance.

The Public Defender emphasizes once again that the right to adequate housing does not only imply having a roof, that is, provision of a shelter. The right to adequate housing implies the right to live in safe, peaceful and dignified conditions, as well as full access to services for persons with disabilities and children. The Kutaisi social housing does not meet the requirements of adequate housing at this stage.
