On August 11, 2023, the Public Defender of Georgia applied to the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia with a proposal to increase the number of hours allocated for the subject "Citizenship" in grade VIII.

As part of the study of the issue, during the analysis of the national curriculum, it was revealed that only an hour a week is allocated for this subject for eighth grade students.

In this regard, the European practice shows that only an hour a week is inappropriate for achieving the goals of the subject, which has a negative impact on the realization of the national goals of general education.
