Public Defender's Office Holds Meetings in Public Schools and Universities to Raise Citizens’ Awareness
From October 27 to November 7, 2025, employees of the Criminal Justice Department of the Public Defender's Office held regular trainings in schools and universities to raise awareness of justice issues.
The trainings were conducted for a total of 336 students from 8 public schools in Mtskheta-Mtianeti, as well as 162 students from the Faculty of Law of Kutaisi Akaki Tsereteli State University, Gori State University, Ilia State University, Grigol Robakidze University (Batumi), Samtskhe-Javakheti State University and Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University.
The topics of the meetings covered important issues such as the rights of minors in the judiciary, ill-treatment and its prevention, negative and positive obligations of the State, police measures and individual rights within the framework of their implementation, penitentiary system, the mandate of the Public Defender and the activities of the Office in relation to justice issues - with the aim of improving the situation of human rights and freedoms in Georgia.
The Public Defender’s Office welcomes the involvement of minors and students in such meetings and their high interest. The Office thanks the administrations of public schools and universities for their effective cooperation and support.
The meetings were held with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) within the framework of the project - "Strengthening the rule of law and increasing access to justice for all".
