Juvenile defendants’ rights in criminal proceedings

The survey concerns the juvenile defendants’ rights in criminal proceedings. The document deals with the practices and detailed procedures applied in relation to children in conflict with the law during criminal proceedings, first contact of juveniles with the law enforcement bodies, court hearings and execution of sentences.

The survey provides detailed analysis of the quality of uniform definition of the new code by the agencies engaged in the judicial processes.

The goal of the survey is to support the Government of Georgia to assess the quality of the protection of the juvenile defendants’ rights in criminal proceedings after enactment of the Juvenile Justice Code, as well as to detect and analyze deficiencies.

In addition, the survey offers recommendations that will help to eliminate quite important shortcomings.
