Public Defender Visits Saburtalo Polling Station No. 52 and Observes Elections

On October 26, 2024, Public Defender Levan Ioseliani visited polling station No. 52 in Saburtalo precinct, located in the building of the 112th kindergarten, where he talked to the representatives of the election administration and observed the process of exercising the right to vote by a blind person.

The observation made it clear that the polling station building is not accessible for persons with disabilities.

In relation to the blind person, it has been revealed that the members of the district commission do not know the rules of communication with blind persons, they could not explain the voting procedure to him and could not answer the questions asked by the voter.

In addition, it should be noted that the frame/form prepared for blind people does not make its independent use possible. It is also difficult to put the ballot in the frame, because it is not clear for a blind person which side of the paper he is putting. Ultimately, due to a number of problems, the blind person's choice may not coincide with the desired candidate.

The Public Defender emphasizes once again that it is important to train members of the commission properly for the effective participation of voters with disabilities, including blind people, in the elections.
