Public Defender Selects New Members of Consultative Council

The Public Defender’s Office of Georgia is a national mechanismfor promoting, protecting and monitoring implementation of the 2006 UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities under Article 33 (2) of the Convention. Within the framework of the mechanism, the Consultative Council for Promotion, Protection and Monitoring of the Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was set up in 2015. The aim of the Council is to facilitate effective monitoring of the implementation of this Convention by the Public Defender of Georgia, considering the principles of the Convention.

The Consultative Council is staffed by representatives of the Public Defender's Office and civil society.

In October 2017, a competition was announced for the vacant positions of theinvited members of the Council due to expiration of their term of office.

As a result, the Public Defender of Georgia selected new members of the Consultative Council for Promotion, Protection and Monitoring oftheImplementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Koba Nadiradze- Independent activist; working on issues related to the rights of persons with disabilities since 1992; the author and implementer of several projects.

Marine Korkotadze- Representative of organization - Parents' of Children with Disabilities; founder and head of the organization - Families against Discrimination.

Marina Kobakhidze- Master of Law, representative of the community of persons with disabilities.

Esma Gumberidze– Student of the Department of Law at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, representative of the community of persons with disabilities.

An additional competition has been announced for twomore vacant positions of the invited members of the Consultative Council.
